TN : Chateau La Commanderie 2005, Saint-Emilion Grand Cru, Bordeaux, France


This wine is a blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc. All of the grapes were harvested between the 19th and 28th September 2005. The yield was 35 hectolitres per hectare. Vatting was 21 days. The wine spent 18 months in barrels of which 50% were new. The wine was matured on its lees. The wine was bottled on the 5th April 2007. 30,000 bottles in total were produced.

This wine is 100% Sangiovese. The vineyard yield was 35 hectolitres per hectare, or 2 tons per acre. The grapes were hand picked in the first week of October 2004. The wine was fermented, for 12 days, in stainless steel at a temperature of less than 30 degrees. There was a 32 day maceration skins. Malolactic fermentation immediately happened after the alcohol fermentation. The wine was matured in Slavonian oak casks and French oak barrels.


This wine made number 15 in Wine Spectator's Top 100 in 2004 (95 points). The wine also received 90 points from The Wine Advocate in 2004.

TN : Charles Smith K Vintners Cabernet Sauvignon 2009, Stoneridge Vineyard, Washington State, USA


This wine is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. Stoneridge vineyard is located northeast of the Wahluke Slope AVA, across the Saddle mountains, near Royal City. The vineyard soils are a mix of Malaga, silt, loam and big rocks of basalt and caliche. The yield was 1.9 tons per acre. Only native yeasts were used to produce this wine. This wine went through malolactic fermentation and was aged in French Burgundy barrels. 270 cases were produced. The wine was released on September 1st 2012. The total acidity is .57, pH is 3.78, and there is no residual sugar.

The grapes for this wine sources from the Angelica vineyard Block 18 at 920 metres elevation (10%), La Piramide vineyard Block 4 at 950 metres elevation (6%), Nicasia vineyard Block 1 at 1095 metres elevation (30%), and Adrianna vineyard Blocks 3 and 9 at 1450 metres elevation (54%). The Angelica vineyard is located right next to a forty metre ravine that ends in the dry river bed of the Rio Mendoza; it's soil profile consists of thin alluvial soils with mixed gravel, sand and clay. The La Piramide vineyard soils consist of deep alluvial loam with 30% clay that decreases soil temperature by 2 degrees in average. The Nicasia vineyard soils consist of a very shallow loamy topsoil with surface gravel and gravelly (large stones) dry river bed subsoil giving optimal drainage. The Adrianna vineyard soil profile is alluvial, gravelly with limestone deposits in the topsoil; Block 9 is planted at high density.


The total acidity is 5.5 grammes per litre (as tartaric acid) and the pH is 3.74. The wine was bottles unfined and unfiltered. The winemaker was Alejandro Vigil.

The Klosterneuburg monastery wine estate was founded in 1114. This wine is a blend of St. Laurent, Zweigelt, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot. It is named in honour of the imperial residence at the Abbey of Klosterneuburg. All of the grapes for this wine come from the Stiftsbreite vineyard which consists of alluvial gravel soil with brown earth. It is at an elevation of 220 metres. All of the grapes were harvested in October 2011. The wine was in contact with the skins for 4 weeks and aged for 18 months in small and large wooden casks. The wine was bottled in May 2013. The residual sugar in this wine is 2.8 grammes per litre and the acidity is 5 grammes per litre.
