Domaine Wachau Pinot Noir Reserve 2015, Wachau, Austria

Boring. Some dull cherry and plums. This is not oaky but I think this spent too much time in oak. This is NOT a value wine. Very disappointing.

Sélection de Mademoiselle Cuvée Madame 2020, Contemporary Wines, Côtes de Provence, France

Strawberries and herbs jump out of the glass and hit you on the nose. The taste was different to what I smelt. Redcurrants, raspberries, a bit nettly, grapefruit and some hints of unidentifiable herbs. Very refreshing and drinkable.

Philipp Kuhn Pinot Noir Tradition 2019, Pfalz, Germany

Raspberries, strawberries, cherries. Very fruity without the warmth of alcohol that you usually get with an overtly fruity pinot. Spice and leather on the finish.

Black Stallion Estate Winery Chardonnay 2019, Napa Valley, California, USA

Oak, butter, peach, apricot, hints of oranges, oily and rich, a sense of sweetness.

Sunday 2 May 2021

Longview Vineyard Juno Nebbiolo Rosato 2020, Adelaide Hills, Australia

Pale copper in colour. Grapefruit in the background, raspberries, watermelon, minerals, and a bit of cream which doesn't seem to fit in. I don't see Nebbiolo as grape for making a rosé based on this wine.

Bread & Butter Chardonnay 2019, Napa, California, USA

Subtle on the oak? Hell no! First impressions are oak, butter, creamy texture however has enough fruit to carry it off. Mango, pineapple, apricot and a hint of spice.

Piastraia Bolgheri Superiore 2017, Michele Satta, Tuscany, Italy

Blackberry, blackcurrant, plums, tobacco, leather, tannic finish. Drinkable now but give it another two to three years for the tannins to die down.

Château de Nages Vielles Vignes 2018, Appellation Costières de Nimes, France

Blackberry, plums, raspberries, liqour-like texture, pepper and liqourice. Lacks a bit of acidity.

Friday 23 April 2021

Les Tours de Laroque 2016, Saint-Émilion Grand Cru, Château Laroque, Familie Beaumartin, Bordeaux, France

Give this a decant for at least thirty minutes. Blackcurrant and plums, some red fruits, tobacco and cedar. Some tannins on the finish. This is very drinkable but it would be at its best in about three years I think when the tannins have mellowed a bit.

Glup Cinsault 2019, Longavi, Secano Interior, Itata, Chile

Blueberry, cherries, raspberry, strawberry, minerals and spice on the finish.

Lan Rioja Crianza 2010, Bodegas Lan, Spain

Smoky toasty oak, red fruits, liqourice and spice in drying tannic finish. Still very youthful; would never guess this was 11 years old.

Tuesday 20 April 2021

Clos La Gaffelière St. Émilion Grand Cru, Comte de Malet Roquefort, Bordeaux, France

Blackberry and blueberry, cedar, tobacco; the finish was a bit flat. Was expecting a bit more concentration but not a bad drop.
